This Economy Stinks

I went to a lot of local joints about town today, just as a treat to myself knowing that the next few months at work are going to be a bit crazy. While on my trek about town, I went into Pink Mink where I found lots of good deals, many at 50% off. They are closing at the end of the month. They were hoping that holiday shopping would give them the extra sales that they needed to stay in business, but alas, no.

Sweeties was next on my list. I saw a "FOR RENT" sign out in front. As it turns out, they are not going out of business but rather moving into what was the antique shop in Reynolda Village. Even though it is not as convenient for me anymore, they are not going out of business, so I am fine with that. I hoe that the new location works well for them. They are the local carrier of Karen & Nancy products, which part of the proceeds goes to the Alzhemer's Association.

Pawsh, a local pet goodie shop, is also gone. They moved to the strip on Reynolda Road across from Hanes Park a few months ago but the move did not help. The space is empty but the sign remains.

I am sure that this is not the last of it. I guess if Saks and Macy's had a rough go at it, I guess the local shops have to work twice as hard.

  1. Saw today that If It's Paper is closing as well. So Pink Mink and If It's Paper are closing and Sweeties is moving. Over the years that little stretch of shops has seen its share of tenants. Seeing them empty will be sad.

  2. Yes, If It's Paper is gone. I loved that store because I was able to buy paper and cardstock in bulk, all with matching envelopes. They also had the best party favors, colorful cups/plates/napkins, and Thank You notes. They are already missed.
