Spring events, here we go!
Phuzz Phest Annual Music Festival (and Coffee Conference)
From the Phuzz Fest Web Page: Founded by accident in 2011, Phuzz Phest is an annual music festival taking place in early April at various venues across the burgeoning downtown area of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This year the festival will span three days from Friday April 4 through Sunday April 6, featuring our most potent and genre-spanning lineup yet with more than 50 musical acts coming from as far away as Los Angeles, Brooklyn, New Orleans and Brazil.
In the few years of the festival’s existence, Phuzz Phest has grown in scope and notoriety to present the highest caliber national acts alongside often-overlooked local gems from Winston-Salem and the greater state of NC. Though far from NC’s largest music festival, Phuzz Phest has built its reputation on keen musical curation resulting in a uniquely special weekend experience. Music lovers rejoice.
An interesting element added to the festival this year is a Coffee Conference. "Our mission is to highlight coffee pioneers, innovators and enthusiasts in the southeast by cultivating a welcoming and stimulating atmosphere in which curious coffee drinkers and experienced baristas alike can explore what it means to enjoy coffee. " Yes, please.
RiverRun International Film Festival
One of the wonderful things to do this weekend (and for the next 10 days) is RiverRun International Film Festival. Each year we eagerly anticipate the schedule of movies, but my favorite is listening to the buzz about the films in bars and coffee shops. RiverRun Film Festival movies are festival movies, the ones that are edgy, the ones that make you think and possibly act differently after you leave the theater.
A few years ago, my husband and I went to an 11am viewing of the movie Food, Inc. The movie is about the "unflattering look inside America's corporate controlled food industry" (IMDb). The movie told about the terrible conditions of large, corporate food producers and how these animals are bred for food. We left the theater with all of this new knowledge of how local foods from smaller farms is the best for you body, mind, and spirit. However, we also left hungry, since it was close to 1pm and we did not eat before the movie. We must have seen half of the theater's audience at Whole Foods 20 minutes later. It seems we all got the message.

It's been too long since I have seen Bolt so I will be at the game on Sunday.
