A Jamboree, I say!

Last night, my husband and I walked downtown to the annual Twin City Kiwanis Pancake Jamboree. This is a great event that I have attended since I was a kid, when my father was in the Kiwanis Club. The thought of all you can eat pancakes/sausage and cold milk in tiny cartons makes my husband, Joe, very excited.

The overwhelming scent of pancakes and syrup greets you as soon as you walk into the convention center. We get in line at 7pm, and there are about 200 people in front of us. As I get in line, I spot Sarahsouth, who I only know from the blogosphere. I introduce myself and we chat for a couple of minutes while waiting in line. It was an unexpected treat. My friend, Jason, was coming out of the main dining area and stopped to chat for a minute. He said that he had two extra tickets that we could have. Score!

We finally made it to the griddles and we each got our plate with 3 pancakes and 2 pieces of sausage. We grab a couple of cartons of milk and find a place to eat. We sat at a table with a very nice family that had a baby that kept eyeballing Joe's plate of deliciousness.

The Kiwanis also made an announcement while were there that they had over 3300 people attend the event this year, setting a new record. (According to the man at our table, the former record of 3000 people occurred during a snow storm several years ago when thousands of people were out of power and came to the Jamboree for a warm place to sit and a hot meal.)

I felt heavier and sleepier on the walk back home but it was worth it. A W-S tradition!
