Yesterday, I worked in the Charlotte Microsoft Office. My company is a Microsoft partner and I had to go down to the Charlotte office for an 8am meeting. Here I am driving through Huntersville, NC at 7:15 am. (Don't worry, I was endagering lives by taking this photo, note my speed and the distance between me and the car in front of me. Super-safe.) My usual commute is between 5-8 minutes, depending on traffic lights. My commute to Charlotte was just under 2 hours, leaving the house at 6:10 am.

When I arrived at Microsoft Campus, I was directed to a room that would be my command base for the day. Here is the "office" where I worked. Not my fabulous cubicle, but it will do for the important phone calls that I had to make. The only downside to this is that the room has motion detectors that turn off the lights when no motion is sensed. I guess moving my mouse and dialing a phone was not enough because I ended up sitting in the darkness every 30 minutes. The switch was behind me so it was not that big a deal. My laptop served as a great nightlight so I found the switch easily. I was impressed that Microsoft was eco-concious.

Another example of their eco-friendliness was their plates, cups, and flatwear. All are made of corn and are compostable. I liked that a lot. I used the same cup all day, to do my part. Their coffee machines were nice, too. They grind and brew per cup, and you can choose your blend. A nice touch on a cold and rainy day.

I left the MS office at 3:30 and was home by 5pm Winston-Salem time. Not a fan of the commute but it was nice once I got there. Still, happy to be home and back to my 5 minute commute.
